Leo is a great teacher, he was very helpful in both class and office hours. Very understanding when things went wrong at last minute and is willing to cut you some slack. Projects were pretty easy and tests were a breeze (Open note, open Internet!) As long as you had done your project and had a grasp on the programming techniques you could easily get an A. My only complaint is that this class seemed to go too Slooow sometimes, I wish we could have gotten to more material. Also, not sure what other people are talking about him being selective about who he likes. I was not exactly the best student and walked into his class 30 minutes late a few times (still feel really bad about that) and he did not hold it against me when helping in office hours or grading my assignments.

As far as the class goes, there were no tests - just homework assignments and projects. The projects are essentially the tests and are worth around a little more than half of your final grade, so either pick a reliable partner or do it yourself. (I highly suggest doing it yourself since it is a pain in the ass to split the projects evenly and then merge it in the end) For the first half of the semester you will be working with HTML and Coldfusion. Coldfusion is easy once you understand the basics. The most important part is to figure out the login functionality. If you can do that, you're guaranteed at least a B for the first project. Also, go all out on the first project. The second project is just a port over to ASP ... and ASP is just drag and freaking drop. (I spent about 20 hours on the first project and about 5 on the second)As for the teacher? Well. He's knowledgeable, I guess, but don't expect too much. If you have any major experience in web programming, you really aren't going to learn much from him. Also, as other reviewers have said, he's very VERY egotistical. The biggest thing I found annoying is whenever I would go into speak with him he would act like a total jerk and completely different from the teacher I knew in class. If you have any sense on how to search for examples on google, do not bother buying the books. You will be wasting a LOT of money, and time.

I thought he was a great professor. He knew what he was talking about, and went out of his way to make sure you understood the material if you actually asked him. Exams are more than open note, you can pretty much use any resource you can get your hands on (except talking to others). I usually got done with them in 20-30 minutes. Don't get me wrong, however, the assignments and exams can be quite challenging. Not recommended for anyone with no prior programming experience or hate to use critical thinking. The logic behind some of the programs is can be very mind-blowing and difficult to grasp at first. I learned a LOT in this class, and loved it!

One of the worst attitudes I have ever dealt with in the College of Business. His purpose is to discourage you from majoring in CIS.

Oh my god! I've never met anyone so intense! He is like what others have said. He's a real you know what. Don't even think about asking him for help as he isn't willing to. He shouldn't have become a professor if he won't recognize student difficulties.

Yes, everyone is right. His exams are too long and you never have enough time to finish them. He doesn't care either!

Total prick! Don't know why he is a teacher if he isn't willing to help students like me who are having a hard time in his class.

One of the most crooked professors I have had at CSU. He doesn't want you to succeed, instead his point is to try to discourage you from majoring in CIS. A professor should be the other way around.

Yes, he is extremely unfair with students. Like others have said his exams are too long and you don't have enough time to finish. You then lose a bunch of points. If he knew how to write exams, then I would have gotten an A, but because of this I ended up with one of my only two C's here at CSU. He doesn't not care if you confront him about it.

Yes, he definitely needs to learn how to write shorter exams. It isn't really fair that you feel you got it down, but because of his overly long exams (and especially if you run out of time) that you end up with a bad grade. If you confront him about this he doesn't listen or seem to care. He seems to have the attitude that he has it made being a part of the COB faculty since no one higher up cares or listens either. Take this class somewhere else. Also, he is very hard to understand with his lisp or accent(whatever it is). His classes were pretty boring and I actually learned how to do everything through the book and from trial and error.

Not sure if I put the correct course number, it was web design. But anyway, very smart man who doesn't share it well with his students. He was always willing to help outside of class, but he never seemed to give me enough of the answer, and if I couldn't figure it out myself (the book doesn't tell you everything) then I just got marked off. I've never had a 1:15 quiz that I didn't finish before, but we had one in this class. I think I got a 20 out of 40 on it. Hardest quiz of my life, but I'm glad he called it a quiz, because that means I can still say I have never failed a test in my college career. If you don't have to take him, then don't, but he can be worked with.

This man doesn't know how to write exams. He doesn't seem to understand that his exams are too long. Plus, be prepared for a lot of reading. You get practically a half a page of instructions for his exam. You get no time whatsoever to go over your answers and he will not allow you to go overtime to turn in your exam. He really needs to make his exams shorter or at least understand that we should be allowed more time. Also, his drill sargent attitude is unnecessary. Believe it or not but this man made me almost change my lifelong dream for a CIS major from his overly high expectations and not being understanding of my difficulties. This class reminds me of the classic example of having a English class where the teacher always harshly grades your paper (even when you think it is perfect). I would consider this class that english class but only with CS/CIS. And Vijayasarathy is the classic english teacher nobody likes. As the person before this review said how you can't take this class anywhere else, They are wrong as most local community colleges offer a VB course. Anyways, not a good teacher. Take it somewhere else without the BS.

The person who wrote two rows down sounds like it's Vijayasarathy. It sounds like how he thinks and talks. Anyways, I wrote the review below this one, but this I just wanted to add.

He's two-faced. In class he says stuff like "I am here to help you" but during his office hours if you ask for help or by email he is the complete opposite. Even in class a few times a student will ask a question and he said, "I'm not going to tell you that!" The student wasn't asking how to code the program just a simple explanation. He is very arrogant. He even challenged me to appeal one of his exam grades. I also agree he acts like a drill sargent. He seems to be very intense and "in the zone". If you just walk by his office and his door is open, he always looks suspious or paranoid if you even look at him. Like the other person said, he is out for himself and anything crooked he does he covers up. He also lies constantly and I have to agree, he picks out who he likes and dislikes. I don't know why he became a professor if he isn't willing to help students. Avoid him and take this at a community college.

I don't know why people make him so great? Maybe because they got A's and they were the lucky ones or they knew how to kiss his butt. I have to agree that he seems to pick out who he likes and dislikes. He also, was not helpful at all. I wrote him by email just asking him a simple question about turning Option Strict on and he respondes to "read the book". He could have just said to "put it at the very very top of your program" in the same amount of words as he told me to "read the book". And then another time I tried talking to him during his office hours and he was very unhelpful. He also will say one thing one day and then change it the next day. He said if you do bad on a test he will offer lots of extra credit points so don't worry about it, and then if you ask him the next day, he says that the extra credit points might not be possible. If he doesn't like you for some reason, it definitely shows on your grade. It seems people who sata round me who made minor mistakes on either their programs or tests got a point taken off, but I got all the points taken off. Maybe it is part of his ways to pick out some people he doesn't like. You are better off taking this class at a community college.
